A more capable mid-tier model, agents that see how a site renders in the browser and a new business model for content and APIs.

Claude Sonnet 5 gets close to Opus 4.8 at $2 and $10 per million tokens
Anthropic released Claude Sonnet 5, which according to the company is the most agentic Sonnet yet: it plans, uses tools such as browsers and terminals and works on its own at a level that used to require larger models. Performance is close to Opus 4.8, at $2 per million input tokens and $10 output, and testers report that it finishes complex tasks and checks its own output without being asked. It is now the default model for the Free and Pro plans.
Production agents that run many times a day get cheaper without losing much quality. Test Sonnet 5 at different effort levels to find the best balance between cost and result for each task.

Safari 27 brings an MCP server so agents can see and debug sites in the browser
Apple introduced the Safari MCP server, in Safari 27 and Safari Technology Preview 247, which connects coding agents to a browser window. With it, any MCP client can access the DOM, network requests, screenshots and the console, to see how the code actually looks to users. Uses include debugging, checking Safari compatibility and measuring load performance.
Agents that check the result in the browser fix UI bugs with less back and forth, and testing in Safari helps avoid leaving out iPhone and Mac users. Web teams can add this check to their development flow.

Cloudflare announces a gateway to charge for any page, dataset, API or MCP tool
Cloudflare announced the Monetization Gateway, which will let customers charge for any resource the company protects, such as pages, datasets, APIs or MCP tools, with payment and access policies managed in one place. Payments will settle in stablecoins over x402, an open protocol developed with more than 25 companies. Cloudflare argues that agents do not see ads or keep monthly subscriptions, and that charging per request, token or outcome is the natural model.
Companies with valuable data, content or APIs get a way to charge AI agents by usage instead of only blocking them. It is a good moment to think about which resources could become pay-per-use products.
