A week for those who work with data and the web: dates and time zones finally solved in JavaScript, data analysis on simple hardware and content collection for RAG.

Temporal, JavaScript's new date API, reaches stage 4 after nine years
Bloomberg told the story of Temporal, a proposal that took nine years and reached stage 4, the approved standard stage, at the committee that defines JavaScript. It replaces the old Date object, copied from Java in 1995, with immutable types, built-in time zone and calendar support and nanosecond precision. According to the post, the ecosystem worked around Date's problems with libraries that now add up to more than 100 million downloads a week.
Systems with scheduling, deadlines, billing or users in several time zones can remove a whole class of bugs and external dependencies. Plan adoption as browsers and runtimes ship Temporal.

DuckDB runs big data benchmarks on Apple's cheapest MacBook
The DuckDB team tested the MacBook Neo, Apple's entry-level laptop with an A18 Pro chip and 8 GB of memory, on analytical database workloads. With DuckDB 1.5.0, the machine completed ClickBench, with a 100 million row table, and TPC-DS at scale factor 300, sometimes with surprisingly good results. The team compares the numbers with cloud instances.
Many analyses that seem to need a cluster fit in an embedded analytical database on an ordinary machine. Before paying for an expensive data warehouse, test whether a tool such as DuckDB handles the company's volume.

Cloudflare launches an endpoint that crawls a whole site with one API call
Cloudflare opened the Browser Rendering /crawl endpoint in beta: from a starting URL, it discovers pages, renders each one in a browser and returns the content as HTML, Markdown or structured JSON. Jobs run asynchronously, with depth control, page limits and incremental crawling to skip what has not changed. The bot identifies itself and honors robots.txt by default, and it is available on both the Workers Free and Paid plans.
Building knowledge bases for RAG assistants, for example from the company's own docs or website, becomes much simpler. It also helps monitor public content in an organized way.
